We Care Project: Thailand

What is your favorite travel memory: a gay cruise on the Caribbean with thousands dancing the night away? What about the magic of lush Thai jungles after electric Bangkok nights? Maybe grooving to the rhythms of Tango while wandering La Boca in Buenos Aires? Or spotting a giraffe on a safari across the Masai Mara in Kenya? While our world is full of beauty there are still those that seek to dim our lights. Right now, our community is rising to fight a tidal wave of hate across the globe. With your support, we will not just survive, but thrive amidst these trying times.

We are asking all who have traveled to contribute what they can to our dynamic partners around the world. Every day, they provide critical support to the local community. Please consider a donation to one of the organizations highlighted here. We can come together to rise against the tsunami of hate before us. Your donations will go directly to uplifting the people who have welcomed us into their countries. All contributions are tax-deductible and, most importantly, life-saving.

Thai Transgender Alliance

Earlier this year, Thailand became the first country in Southeast Asia to legalize same-sex marriage. While a huge victory for LGBTQ+ people, the work isn’t over yet. There are still critical legislative and policy gaps that must be addressed to ensure that LGBTQ+ individuals can fully enjoy basic human rights and a higher quality of life. These priorities include legal gender recognition for trans, nonbinary, and intersex people, access to affordable and inclusive healthcare, including gender-affirming care, and the passage of a comprehensive anti-discrimination law that protects everyone.
While transgender people are highly visible in Thai society, visibility is often mistaken for acceptance. The common perception is that trans people do not face struggles because they can express themselves openly and are visible in many spaces. However, trans people know that this is far from the truth. Until legal recognition is secured, transgender people cannot truly feel safe or whole.
To sustain this momentum, it is critical to increase resources for advocates and prioritize strengthening LGBTIQ+ activists and their movements. The fight for LGBTIQ+ rights should not be limited to short-term projects or tokenized initiatives—it must evolve into a long-term movement for social change, ensuring progress continues across generations.

Since 2010, the Foundation of Transgender Alliance for Human Rights (ThaiTGA) has been a driving force in advocating for the rights, dignity, and well-being of transgender people in Thailand. ThaiTGA works tirelessly to promote equality, improve quality of life, and eliminate discrimination against transgender individuals.

Through research, advocacy, and community empowerment, ThaiTGA amplifies transgender voices and collects vital data on gender identity, health access, and human rights experiences. This information drives policy changes, improves healthcare access, and challenges societal stigma.

Additionally, ThaiTGA strengthens trans-led activism by providing training, resources, and small grants to emerging transgender advocates, ensuring they have the tools and support necessary to make a lasting impact.

For over a decade, ThaiTGA has worked to foster a society where every transgender person can thrive and live with dignity. Your contribution will directly support the transgender community in Thailand and the critical work of ThaiTGA.
