The International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia (IDAHOT), on May 17, has been marked worldwide to celebrate sexual and gender diversity. The Myanmar Centre for Responsible Business (MCRB) and Yangon-based NGO Colours Rainbow have jointly written an open letter urging companies to stand up for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) equality by displaying a rainbow flag. Colors Rainbow last year published an overview of the situation of LGBT people at workplaces in Yangon and Mandalay. This identified the societal discrimination faced by members of those communities in the country. The Myanmar Times spoke to Ko Hla Myat Tun, deputy director of Colors Rainbow, about Myanmar’s progress on LGBT rights.
