Trump nominates gay man for Treasury secretary

Donald Trump announced today (Friday, Nov. 22) that he is nominating hedge fund executive Scott Besent, a top fundraising for the Trump campaign, to serve as secretary of the Treasury in his second administration. Bessent is a married gay man with two children. Charles Moran, president of Log Cabin Republicans, hailed Bessent’s nomination as “a reminder of President Trump’s love and respect for LGBT Americans.” In a statement announcing his nomination of Bessent, Trump said Bessent will “help me usher in a new Golden Age for the United States.” “Unlike in past administrations, we will ensure than no Americans will be left behind in the next and greatest economic boom, and Scott will lead that effort for me,” the statement continued.
