Under-fire SQA strikes deal to provide education in violently anti-gay Brunei

Scotland’s under-fire exam body has agreed a deal to provide education in the violently anti-gay state of Brunei, the Sunday Mail reveals today. The Scottish Qualification Authority (SQA) sells computing courses to a college with close links to the internationally reviled Sultan Hassanal Bolkiah. The Sultan was the subject of an international protest after it emerged he planned to introduce a “death by stoning” sentence for offences including adultery and sodomy. In practice, it would have seen people executed simply for being gay. We can reveal a deal was set up between the SQA and Brunei’s Micronet International College in 2017 – three years after the tiny Asian state adopted a brutal interpretation of Sharia law. It remained in place despite the proposed rollout of the death sentences in April, which sparked international condemnation led by the United Nations.
