Around the world, Pride parades - events celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) culture and pride - are becoming more common in cities big and small. This Sunday, Guam’s LGBT community and its supporters will host its own such event - dubbed Pride in the Pacific - at Jimmy Dee’s Beach Bar in Tamuning. Pride events are often held in June to commemorate the Stonewall riots, commonly considered to be the beginning of the modern LGBT civil rights movement. On June 28, 1969, some in the LGBT community fought back against police attacks and raids at the Stonewall Inn bar in New York City.
