As the nation begins processing the horrific massacre that unfolded over the weekend at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, Florida, cities around the world displayed profound solidarity with victims of the attack and the global LGBT community. Vigils, like the one above in Albuquerque, New Mexico, were held in dozens of cities worldwide following news of the terrorist attack on the Orlando LGBT nightclub, which left 49 dead and 53 injured. World landmarks, US embassies and public centers turned quickly into impromptu demonstrations of love, sadness, community and mourning. As investigators in Orlando sort out the carnage and notify loved ones who have lost brothers and sisters, sons and daughters, friends and colleagues in the brutal mass shooting, LGBT communities and allies around the globe focused on messages of support, vigilance and unity.
